The first section of the route follows mainly the path, it is hard and very nice.
It gives the first view of the sea. It is interesting to grasp the atmosphere sorrounding ancient villages along the walk, to visit the ruins of Brina Castle, and the pretty town of Sarzana. The second half is flat; the main attraction is the archaeological site in Luni, an ancient Roman port where pilgrims of Via Francigena embarked to go towards Santiago. There is a sufficient water supply. Road-houses in Sarzana, Caniparola, Mani di Ferro.
